Ordinary to Extraordinary: Changing lives one step at a time
In 2010, Martin ran 250 marathons and raised $320,000 for the humanitarian organization, Right To Play. He has now completed his “Quests for Kids” initiative, completing 10 quests in 5 years, raising over $1.36m for Right To Play and changing the lives of over 27,300 of the world’s most disadvantaged children.
Telling a story which will amaze and inspire, Martin will show how, through determination and persistence, one person can affect change, one step at a time, to achieve a remarkable goal. He will explain how he tackled many obstacles, including injury, skepticism and the ever-changing degrees of temperature to achieve his dream. Learn how he had to adapt his diet in order to stay healthy and undergo constant monitoring by a team of health professionals. Martin talks about the challenges of fundraising, having no corporate sponsors and learning to deal with Global media attention.
With 25 years’ experience in the Canadian mining industry, Martin has held positions of responsibility in Engineering, Operations and Human Resources. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Human Resources Institute of Alberta and the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers. He was named as one of the 50 most influential Albertans by Alberta Venture magazine. He is currently President of the Rotary Club of Cochrane. Martin has made numerous keynote presentations across Canada and the UK. Clients include: Avanti Software, Sun Life Financial, HRIA, Raymond James and Centron Construction.
